The Hotelier Awards are a global and regional celebration of brilliance in hospitality. The Award is the only accolade in Asia to honour the hard-working professionals who have dedicated their lives to serving others and are an “overdue recognition bestowed upon those individuals, who are the best in their field”.
Just under 600 applications from 16 countries were submitted for this year’s Awards. For Sarith to stand out at this stage is a tremendous achievement, especially considering that he was not destined for a career in hospitality at all.
Originally from a small village about 50km outside Kampot, Sarith came to Phnom Penh to study IT. To help him pay for his studies, he took a job on the reception of a smart boutique hotel and, much to his surprise, instantly fell in love with the role. “From the beginning I loved it,” he says. “I enjoyed making people feel at home so much that my manager thought I already had experience”.
Sarith joined us at Arunreas towards the end of 2015, not long after we opened. He soon made his mark, which is why he was promoted to Supervisor in under a year and to Front Desk Manager a year after that. But it’s not just us who think he’s brilliant. Dozens of happy guests have left reviews on TripAdvisor and other platforms hailing his incredible dedication, attention to detail and outright obsession with the quality of their stay.
The secret to Sarith’s success: a firm belief that even though we are not a 5* hotel, that is no reason why we shouldn’t offer a 5* service, and he applies that logic to everything he does.
The final awards ceremony will be held in Singapore on 23 May 2018. We wish Sarith every success and also congratulate Jaya House RiverPark, Amansara Resort and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor for their selections too. It is indeed a great year for Cambodian hospitality.
